Welcome to ATM Moerdijk
Many people view hazardous waste as a considerable threat to our environment. However, hazardous and chemical waste are produced when extracting and using gas, oil and raw materials, when producing goods, during transport and in our households too. This is an unavoidable consequence of the affluent lives that we are leading. However, because we want to live in a clean world, this waste must be managed and treated in an appropriate manner and this is what ATM has made its particular area of expertise. Although this is not an activity with an attractive image, it does have major social importance.
ATM operates 24 hours a day and primarily processes hazardous waste, such as household chemical waste, industrial waste and ship-generated waste, contaminated wastewater/sludge as well as contaminated soil. ATM has 180 members of staff and processes 1.5 million tons of waste every year, more than 90% of which is made suitable for reuse as a product or raw material. The quantities processed make ATM one of the biggest processors of hazardous waste in the world. Waste processing at ATM is all about achieving the right balance between safety, expediency, efficiency and care for the environment. Care for the environment is systematically promoted via the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OSHAS 18001) and the Compliance System (CORE).
ATM is part of Shanks Nederland, which also includes 10 other waste companies. Together with Shanks waste companies in Belgium and the UK, they form the Shanks Group Plc., a company listed on London’s stock exchange in London (www.shanks.co.uk)
